North American Contractors Case Studies: Just Needed a Small Repair

Challenge

We were called out to inspect a roof that the homeowner thought had sustained wind damage and they had already contacted their insurance agent to file a homeowner’s insurance claim. She mentioned the adjuster had already come out to inspect the roof and was waiting on the verdict.

Our inspector Josh Timm looked at the roof and could see there was no wind damage to the roof. We try to encourage clients to have a licensed roofing contractor to check their roof before filing a claim. In this instance, the homeowner saw a leak and immediately contacted her insurance company. 

Solution

Inspector Josh tracked down the leak to her siding. He recommends a small repair to remediate the interior leak that was caused by a few pieces of siding lifting in one area permitting water to get thru to the decking. The wood decking was rotted in that area and water was able to enter the interior of the home. 

As he anticipated, the insurance adjuster reported back that there was no damage to the roof to warrant filing a claim. However, since the homeowner went ahead a filed, it’s now listed on her insurance score even though there was no payout. 

Here at North American Contractors we always advocate for our clients. In this situation, the homeowner simply needed a $500 repair. If we were given the opportunity to inspect her roof prior to her filing a claim, she wouldn’t have negatively impacted her insurance.
