Roof Repair Case Studies: Being an Advocate for our Clients in Navigating the Insurance Claims Process

Challenge
Our client in Clinton contacted us for a storm damage inspection on their home due to missing shingles on their roof. Upon arrival we noticed substantial wind damage with missing shingles and a few hail hits to the roof. The client had already filed a claim with their insurance company prior to contacting us. The insurance company would only approve a claim to repair the roof, since it had two layers of shingles. Upon futher inspection our seasoned inspector Joe had a feeling the shingles on the roof were discontinued with the manufacturer. Most insurance companies are required to replace or repair the roof with like or better materials. If the materials needed to do so are discountinued, they are required to replace the entire roof since the shingles can no longer be matched accordingly. Inspector Joe was on the case to see if the shingles were in fact discontinued in an effort to have the insurance company replace the roof, and not just repair it.
Solution
After submitting a shingle sample to the testing company ITEL, inspector Joe’s knowledge of shingle manufacuturers paid off. He was correct, and the shingles were in fact discontinued. He submitted a supplement to the client’s insurance company with evidence that showed his shingles were discontinued. The insurance company then approved a full roof replacement. Joe’s due diligence and extensive product knowledge helped advocate for this client. Instead of just having their roof repaired, it was fully replaced through insurance.
